TMJ Dysfunction

TMJ Dysfunction

TemporoMandibular Joint, TMJ, dysfunction is a general term for a group of conditions that affect the temporomandibular joint. The TMJ’s are small joints that connect the lower jaw to the temporal bone of the skull. TMJ dysfunction is characterized by pain of the jaw joint that is made worse during or after eating or yawning. It can cause limited jaw movement and clicks and pops during chewing. In severe cases, pain can radiate into the neck, shoulders and back.

Can MLS Laser Therapy Help? MLS Laser Therapy has helped a number of patients in eliminating the pain and headaches from TMJ.  Typically, a series of trigger points on the jaw and neck are treated with a narrow beam of laser light, for short periods of time in each location reducing pain and inflammation and aiding to a return of normal function.
